Baseball beats Albany to stave off elimination


Junior Brandon McNitt pitched seven solid innings, allowing just one unearned run, and freshman Johnny Caputo had three hits and an RBI to lead the Stony Brook baseball team to a 3-1 win over Albany in the loser's bracket of the 2013 America East Championship Thursday at LeLacheur Park. Stony Brook will face either Maine or Binghamton Friday at 4 p.m.

The Stony Brook baseball team will have its backs against the wall in the America East Championship after the Seawolves dropped the tournament opener to Maine, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at LeLacheur Park. The Seawolves will now play an elimination game against Albany on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Parenty headlines nine All-America East honorees


Freshman Jack Parenty headlined nine Stony Brook baseball conference awards honorees as he was named 2013 America East Rookie of the Year, the conference announced on the eve of the America East Championship, held at LeLacheur Park. Parenty, junior Frankie Vanderka and junior Kevin Courtney were first-team All-America East selections.

Baseball opens America East Championship vs. Maine


The Stony Brook baseball team will open defense of its America East Championship crown Wednesday when it takes on top seed Maine in the tournament's opening game at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m., and live video is available for free at AmericaEast.com.

Baseball beats Hartford to clinch playoff berth


Faced with a winner-take-all game on the road for the right to move on to the America East Championship, the Stony Brook baseball team, behind a fantastic effort from starting pitcher Brandon McNitt, rose to the occasion, taking advantage of seven Hartford errors and bashing 11 hits in a 10-3 victory over the Hawks Saturday at Fiondella Field. The Seawolves will play Maine Wednesday at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass., at 4 p.m.
