Baseball holds seventh annual Bat Blast
Dec. 4, 2012
Stony Brook, N.Y. -
The Stony Brook baseball team held its seventh annual Bat Blast fundraising event on Monday, December 3. The Seawolves had the opportunity to hold the event on a sunny, 60-degree afternoon.
The batting practice competition involved each student-athlete earning a specific number of sponsored pitches based on the amount they raised for the program. Points are scored during each player's at-bat, and the player with the highest batting average is declared the winner.
Junior Frankie Vanderka (Levittown, N.Y.) was crowned the pitchers champion and senior Tanner Nivins (Kitchener, Ontario) was named the top hitter. Vanderka out-dueled Nivins as the Bat Blast Champion.
Stony Brook, which captured its second America East title in three seasons and advanced to its first-ever College World Series, will open the 2013 season at Florida International on February 15.
