Baseball has four named All-American by ABCA
June 21, 2012 Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook junior centerfielder Travis Jankowski has been named a first team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), the organization announced on Wednesday. Senior Tyler Johnson earned second team honors while juniors Maxx Tissenbaum and William Carmona were named to the third team. Jankowski led the nation in hits (110), triples (11) and runs scored (79) and also ranked eighth in the country in batting average (.414) and sixth in stolen bases (34). Jankowski also became the first player in program history to be take in the first round of the MLB Draft, when he was drafted 44th overall by the San Diego Padres earlier this month. Jankowski was one of seven Stony Brook players selected in this year's draft. The program's all-time wins leader, Johnson went 12-2 with 2.52 ERA in 16 starts, tying for the national lead in victories. Johnson won three games in this year's NCAA tournament as he helped lead the Seawolves on their run to the College World Series. Carmona had another spectacular season for the Seawolves, hitting .393 with 12 home runs in addition to driving in a school record 73 runs. He ranked in the top 10 in the nation in hits (101), doubles (26), total bases (177), slugging percentage (.691) and RBI. Drafted in 11th round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies, Carmona became the programs all-time hits leader on Sunday against Florida St. Tissenbaum hit .390 with 20 doubles and 51 RBI and posted an on-base percentage of .453. Tissenbaum led the nation in fewest strikeouts per AB for most of the season and was drafted in the 11th round by the San Diego Padres.
The announcement by the ABCA is just the latest honor for the Seawolves, who captured the eye of the nation with its nation-leading 52 wins and run to the College World Series.
