Setting the Scene: The Stony Brook University basebal team make its first ever appearance in the Super Regionals this weekend against the LSU Tigers. Stony Brook advanced to the Super Regionals by winning the Coral Gables Regional last weekend. SBU is just the third ever No. 4 seed to advance to the Super Regionals (Fresno St. 2008, Missouri 2006) since the NCAA went to the Regional format in 1999.

About the Seawolves: Stony Brook enters this weekend with the most wins (50) in the country as well as the nation's top winning percentage (.806) and its .793 winning percentage (92-24) since the beginning of last season is also tops in the nation.The Seawolves are ranked No. 16 in the Collegiate Baseball poll and No. 18 in the NCBWA poll, its highest ever rankings in either poll. The Seawolves made their first ever appearance in the Baseball America poll last week, dropping in at No. 25. SBU has won 26 of its last 28 games.

Path to Baton Rouge: The Seawolves won their second America East regular season title and then won three straight games at the America East tournament to earn its fourth all-time bid, and second in the last three years, to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. Stony Brook then won the Coral Gables Regional as the No. 4 seed to advance to Baton Rouge. 

Scouting LSU: The No. 7 national seed, LSU swept through the Baton Rouge Regional with a victory over Louisiana-Monroe and two victories over Oregon St. The Tigers are ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll and No. 6 in the NCBWA poll. The Tigers are appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the 25th time. LSU has an 11-8 record in super regional games. The Tigers have won 18 regional titles, five super regional titles and six College World Series championships (1991, 1993, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2009).
