Stony Brook, N.Y. - Nick Abel, a fifth year senior pitcher for Stony Brook, has signed a free agent contract with the New York Mets. Abel, who posted a 1.69 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 16.0 innings of work as a senior, will leave for extended Spring Training at Port St. Lucie and will most likely begin his professional career playing with the Brooklyn Cyclones of the New York-Penn League.
