West Hartford, Ct. - The Stony Brook baseball team swept its doubleheader over Hartford on Saturday afternoon. Behind solid starts from Gary Novakowski and Kurt Jung, the Seawolves won Game 1, 1-0, and completed the sweep with a 3-1 win in Game 2. With the wins the Seawolves improve to 14-14 overall and 6-1 in America East play. Hartford moves to 8-19, 5-2.

In Game 1, Novakowski went the distance on the mound for Stony Brook. He only allowed two hits in the complete game shutout and struck out two. The Seawolves scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning when Michael Stephan hit a solo shot.

In Game 2, Jung gave the Seawolves their second quality start of the day and Rob Dyer went 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Seawolves completed the sweep. Stony Brook plated a pair of runs in the fourth inning to take an early 2-0 lead when Dyer hit an RBI single to plate Rob Leonard and Keith Fier dropped down a successful squeeze bunt.

The Hawks answered with their only run of the day in the bottom half of the inning with a sac fly.

The Seawolves added another run in the fourth when Justin Echevarria delivered an RBI single.

Jon Kalkau picked up his second save of the season as he closed out the final 1.2 innings of the game.

Jung (5-2) allowed only one run in 5.1 innings on the mound.

The Seawolves will wrap-up their series at Hartford on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
