Stony Brook, N.Y. - Four student-athletes from Stony Brook's track & field teams have been accepted to participate in the NCAA East Regional at the University of North Florida from May 24-26.

Sophomore Eric Speakman (Napier, New Zealand) and senior Patricia Barry (Tipperary, Ireland) will make their inaugural appearances. Sophomore Olivia Burne (Palmerston North, New Zealand) will be making her second straight outdoor regional. Senior Lucy Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand), the NCAA champion in the indoor mile, will look to qualify for a fourth straight berth in the NCAA Championships.

Speakman, who will compete in the 1,500, has a top time of 3:42.94, set last weekend at the Virginia Challenge. He is seeded 13th.

Barry, seeded 43rd, is looking to advance in the 10,000. Her top time of 35:22.87 was set at the ECAC Championships at Princeton.

Burne, who ran a 4:28.01 1,500 at last year's regional, will head to Jacksonville with a time nearly six seconds faster this season (4:20.60). She is seeded 26th.

Van Dalen. whose 1,500 time of 4:14.71 is the 14th fastest time in the country this season, is seeded seventh. In the 1,500 final last year, she ran a 4:15.33.

Speakman, Burne and Van Dalen will go through two heats. Barry will attempt to qualify in one.
