Des Moines, Iowa -

In the final race of her brilliant career, senior Lucy Van Dalen took fourth in the final of the 1,500 at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake University Saturday.

Van Dalen finished in 4:14.40, giving Stony Brook five points towards the team competition. She was eighth after 700 meters, but remained composed, moving into fourth place after 1100. Running into a strong head wind in the final 400 meters, Van Dalen still was able to cross among in the top third.

The New Zealand native finishes her illustrious career with a sixth top-10 finish at an NCAA Championship. One of the greatest student-athletes in Stony Brook history, Van Dalen will add a sixth All-America honor to her credit later this week.
