Des Moines, Iowa - Senior Lucy Van Dalen won her semifinal heat of the 1,500 to advance to Saturday's final at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake University Thursday evening.

Van Dalen, the NCAA champion in the indoor mile, ran heat one in 4:11.69, just a tenth of a second off her school record 4:11.59. She out-kicked Georgetown's Emily Infeld (4:11.73) for the win.

"The toughest part is during the qualifying," head coach Andy Ronan said. "Now that Lucy's advanced to Saturday, the fun can begin."

The top five finishers in each of the two heats plus the next best two times advance to Saturday.

ESPNU will show the 1,500 final live. The race is scheduled to get underway 11:28 local time Saturday.
