Princeton, N.J. - Just 11 days before the NCAA Regionals Championships, individuals from the Stony Brook track & field teams turned in some impressive performances.

At the Virginia Invitational, sophomore Eric Speakman (Napier, New Zealand) ran a 3:42.94 in the 1,500 to break his own school record by more than five seconds, guaranteeing himself a spot in the regionals at the University of North Florida. Speakman won his section and finished sixth overall.

At the same meet, sophomore Olivia Burne (Palmerston North, New Zealand) ran a career-best 4:20.60, finishing as the ninth best collegian. Her performance should also qualify her for the regionals.

At the ECAC Championships at Princeton University, senior Patricia Barry (Tipperary, Ireland) took second in the 10,000 (35:22.87), a season-best of more than 12 seconds, to put her in line for a spot in the regionals.

Senior Carolina Cortes (Woodmere, N.Y.) placed ninth in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:44.44) and sophomore Carlos Roa (Jamaica, N.Y.) finished 15th out of 30 competitors in a competitive 10,000 at the IC4A Championships.
