Track & Field completes day one of America East Championships
May 5, 2012 Men's Results | Women's Results Orono, Maine - Day one of the America East Championships are complete, and Stony Brook's track & field teams posted impressive performances at the Beckett Family Track and Field Complex at the University of Maine. Senior Lucy Van Dalen won her heat in the 1,500 (4:37.19) and qualified for the 800 finals (2:12.06). Junior Annie Keown (Auckland, New Zealand) captured the 10,000 (37:10.09), winning by more than 13 seconds. Other Saturday qualifiers were senior Mary O'Connor (Waterford, Ireland) in the 800 (2:12.09) and sophomore Olivia Burne (Palmerston North, New Zealand) and senior Lorraine McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) in the 1,500 (4:38.57, 4:38.70). Senior Carolina Cortes (Woodmere, N.Y.) took third in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:41.88). On the men's side, senior Shamell Forbes (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) qualified for the finals in the 800 (1:54.89) and sophomore Eric Speakman (Napier, New Zealand) will run in the 1,500 final (4:00.59). Freshman Terry Martin (Pine Bush, N.Y.) qualified for the finals in the 110 hurdles (14.86) and 400 hurdles (54.67).
Senior Gerard Harley (Setauket, N.Y.) took second in the 10,000 (30:55.10). Freshman Chris Hand (Melville, N.Y.) placed eight in the Javelin with a top throw of 46.26. |
