Long Branch, N.J. – After a successful open to the outdoor season at home Wednesday, the Stony Brook men’s and women’s track and field teams traveled to New Jersey for the Monmouth Invitational Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30 in Long Branch, N.J.

Freshman Sara Conway posted a 4.82-meter jump in the women’s long jump to secure fifth in the event, and junior Anthony Fratto placed seventh in the men’s hammer throw on a 45.20-meter toss.

"Tony Fratto and Sarah Conway continued their strong starts to the season in the hammer and long jump, respectively,” Stony Brook track and field head coach Andy Ronan commented. “This meet-- coming on the heels of our home meet on Wednesday-- gave our freshmen a taste of what it takes to compete at this level. Now they know what they have to do in the coming weeks to be ready for the conference championships. I hope they will step up to the challenge.”

Junior Andrea Giannini took eighth in the women’s javelin throw with a 37.19-meter heave, while freshman Allyson Laporte nabbed ninth on a 36.65-meter throw.

The men’s 4x100 meter relay squad consisting of Stephen Reilly, Robert Taylor, Vincenzo Battaglia and Adam Davies came in fourth in 43.63.
