Joe Nathan FieldThe transformation of University Field to Joe Nathan Field is currently underway and the first phase of construction is expected to be completed in February 2011. Named after former Stony Brook and current Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Nathan, the 1,000-seat facility will be among the finest in the Northeast region. The old grass surface will be removed in favor of the same FieldTurf that is used at LaValle Stadium. The outfield fences down the left and right field lines will be pushed back from 320 to 330 feet while the center field fence moves in from 410 to 390 feet. Among the other amenities are new bullpens and new dugouts. A second phase that would include a new scoreboard, stadium seating, lights and a press box is currently in the planning stages, but needs financial support.
