Stony Brook University has announced a $20 million renovation and expansion of Stony Brook University Arena, which opened in 1990 at a cost of $17 million. The University has retained HOK Sport of Kansas City and NK architects of New Jersey to prepare renovation and design plans for the current home of the Seawolves basketball teams. The firms have also designed the new Citi Field for the New York Mets and the new Yankee Stadium. The first phase of this project was completed during the summer of 2008, with the construction of the new locker room facilities, video/film rooms and team lounges for both men's and women's Basketball programs. The Volleyball program will also receive an upgrade in the locker room and rehab center as well.

Among the many design enhancements included in this renovation project

  • New Bowl seating configuration which will bring intimate atmosphere to the game court for 4,000 spectators
  • Modern Arena scoreboards and video technology to enhance fan experience
