Athletics department continues to show commitment to the investment in personnel.
Asha Michener joined the Stony Brook athletics staff in November 2010 as an Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. He was promoted to Director of Digital Media in July 2013 and currently oversees the department's creative channels, including all video production and graphic design. Michener is also the primary media contact for women's soccer, swimming and diving, and softball.
Prior to Stony Brook, Michener worked at Lehigh University as the primary media contact for men's soccer, volleyball and men's and women's cross country. During that time, Michener gathered statistics, wrote game reports and releases for the athletic website and spearheaded the media relations effort for the annual Paul Short Run, one of the largest cross country meets in the nation.
Before joining Lehigh, Michener served as a media relations assistant at Northeastern University, where he was the primary contact for field hockey and women's ice hockey, and the secondary contact for men's ice hockey. At Northeastern, Michener coordinated and implemented the media relations effort for the Sun Life Frozen Fenway event, which featured the Northeastern women's hockey team in the first-ever outdoor women's college hockey game.
A native of Quakertown, Pa., Michener spent three years working for his alma mater, Boston University, in the athletic communications department as a student worker. Michener graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boston University in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in communications.
