#Seawolves Weekly Wrap Oct. 7-13

Oct. 14, 2013

#Seawolves Fans,

Our student-athletes in RED enjoyed another strong weekend as the football team dominated Colgate on the road, the volleyball team split a pair of matches in upstate New York, and the women's soccer team rolled over rival Albany.

This week is a bye week for the football team, but there's plenty of #Seawolves action at home this week as men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball will all host matches. Check the GoSeawolves.org calendar for more information. And don't forget to get your tickets for next Saturday's football bout with New Hampshire at 4 p.m.

D-FENCE rules in win at Colgate
The #Seawolves left no doubt in their game at Colgate this past Saturday, scoring on the opening drive of the game and then taking it to the Raiders with punishing defense in a 27-3 victory. The defense racked up three sacks, a fumble force and fumble recovery and a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown by Naim Cheeseboro.

Bringing good luck to the football team
One of the stories circulating around this season has been the one of Joey Feminella, a 14-year-old resident of West Islip, who has been honorary captain of the #Seawolves football team for five years after recovering from battling brain cancer. News 12 featured Joey and the team last week.

Women's soccer remains perfect at home
Seven up, seven down for the #Seawolves at LaValle Stadium after they took down SUNY rival Albany, 4-0, on Sunday. Stony Brook is now 7-0-0 at home this season and gained an important three points in its battle for the America East championship. The team is tied with UMBC and Hartford for second place with six points. Stony Brook and UMBC will duel Thursday night at LaValle Stadium. Here's the recap of Sunday's match and watch the highlights below:

Volleyball splits upstate
The #Seawolves extended their winning streak to four matches Friday night with a five-set come-from-behind win at Binghamton. Stony Brook was then stonewalled at Albany, falling in four sets on Sunday, but the #Seawolves are still 3-2 in America East. They will host Providence and Hartford this weekend. Men's soccer can't convert at UNH
Despite having the better of the opportunities, the men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss at New Hampshire, the program's first loss to UNH since 2007. The other results of the weekend left Stony Brook in a four-way tie for third place in America East. The #Seawolves will host Binghamton Wednesday night at LaValle Stadium. Men's hoops gets preseason love

Men's basketball head coach Steve Pikiell has built the Stony Brook program up from scratch, and many people have taken notice of the #Seawolves, who have captured three of the last four America East regular season championships. NBCSports.com's Kevin Doyle talks about the rise of the program and the goal of reaching the NCAA Tournament. Doyle also previews the America East this season and names the #Seawolves his preseason favorite and Jameel Warney preseason player of the year.
