Hall Of Fame Inducts Four New Members
Oct. 6, 2005 Over 100 supporters of Stony Brook Athletics enjoyed themselves at the 2005 SBU Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The event took place at the Meadow Club in Port Jefferson, N.Y. and honored the four newest members of the SBU Athletics Hall of Fame. The Class of 2005 includes university president Dr. Shirley Strum Kenny, Stuart Sharoff '81 (football), Teri Tiso (former head coach, volleyball) and John P. Brisson (swimming/rowing). The day kicked off with a breakfast and induction ceremony at the Meadow Club. Each inductee was honored with a video presentation and was presented with their Hall of Fame plaque by Stony Brook University Director of Athletics Jim Fiore. Tiso was the first individual inducted and gave a great perspective on how far women's athletics has come. For added emphasis, Tiso got the crowd laughing as she brought up a duffel bag of various Stony Brook t-shirts throughout the years. Brisson followed with a moving recollecting the importance of competing athletically and how it has changed and molded his life after college. Sharoff, one of Stony Brook's most passionate supporters, was very humbled and grateful to be bestowed with such an honor. David Kenny, Dr. Kenny's son, humorously portrayed Dr Kenny as a world class athlete and, while not an athlete, her contributions and love of athletics were the driving force behind Stony Brook's climb from a Division III institution to a Division I athletic program.
Later in the afternoon, the four newest members of the SBU Athletics Hall of Fame were recognized at half time of the homecoming football game versus Georgetown. Former Stony Brook athletes Chuck Downey (Football/HOF '88), Mary Schelp (Volleyball/Basketball `98), Trisha Lollo (Volleyball `97), Tara Reidy-Tosi (Volleyball `98), Sarah Boeckel (Volleyball `99), Katie McCabe (Volleyball `00), Stasia Nikas-Dibonis (Volleyball/HOF `92), Denise Logan Heuser (Swimming/Diving/HOF `80), Lisa White (Basketball/HOF `87), Michelle White (Basketball/HOF `87), Frank Ross (Lacrosse/HOF `81), Ellen Chang (Volleyball `89), Greg Monfiletto (Football '98) and Matt Larsen (Football '96) came to show their support of those being inducted and for SBU athletics. The four new members of the Stony Brook University Athletics Hall of Fame join the existing 38 members bringing the current total to 42 members.
