Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook Athletics will be hosting its annual Seawolves Classic Golf Outing and Downey Memorial Golf Outing in the month of July. The Seawolves Classic takes place Monday, July 16 and the Downey Memorial takes place Monday, July 30, both at the Willow Creek Golf & Country Club in Mount Sinai, N.Y. All Stony Brook staff, fans, supporters and alumni are invited to participate.
Both the Seawolves Classic and Downey Memorial will have the same schedule of events. They will begin with registration and brunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun tee-off at 1 p.m. After the day of golf is complete, there will be a cocktail hour at 6 p.m., and dinner/awards at 7 p.m.
At the Seawolves Classic, the cost of a round of golf plus dinner is $250 per individual and $1,000 for a foursome. Dinner only costs $100.
All proceeds at the Seawolves Classic will benefit the Charles Gordon Heuser Scholarship Endowment and the Stony Brook Athletics Department. The Charles Gordon Heuser Scholarship Endowment was started to honor Charles Gordon Heuser and his spirit, joy and enthusiasm for life. One of Stony Brook's biggest fans, Heuser had passed away in December 2000 after a skiing accident.
At the Downey Memorial, the cost of a round of golf plus dinner is $225 per individual and $900 for a foursome. Dinner only costs $100.
The Downey Memorial is in honor of FDNY Deputy Chief Raymond M. Downey, who died in the line of duty helping others escape from the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He was Stony Brook Football's No. 1 fan, and in his honor, the Downey Family created the Raymond M. Downey Scholarship Endowment fund in his honor.
