For the second straight season, Stony Brook University will play host to a national championship game in women's lacrosse as No. 2 Northwestern faces No. 4 Syracuse in the final of the 2012 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship Sunday at LaValle Stadium at 8 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
In Friday night's semifinals in front of 7,729 fans, Syracuse came back from a seven-goal, second half deficit to knock off top seed Florida, 14-13, in double overtime, and Northwestern topped No. 3 Maryland, 8-7, in a rematch of last year's title game.
Northwestern, which is 20-2 this season, is vying for its second straight national championship and its seventh in the last eight seasons. Syracuse is making its first-ever final appearance and looking for its first national championship.
Tickets for Sunday's night's title game are still available through the Stony Brook Athletics ticket office. Tickets can be purchased online at GoSeawolves.org/tickets up until 6 p.m. Sunday night. The ticket booths at LaValle Stadium will open at 6 p.m. Sunday for in-person purchases.
