Stony Brook University placed 59 student-athletes on the America East Honor Roll for the Fall 2011 season, the conference announced recently. Per the America East, student-athletes must achieve a semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher in order to be eligible for America East Honor Roll distinction.
Of the 59 student-athletes on the America East Honor Roll, 20 were also named to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll, which requires student-athletes to achieve a semester grade-point average of 3.50 or higher.
The men's cross country team had the most Honor Roll members of any Stony Brook fall sport with 16 student-athletes. Of those 16, eight of the student-athletes were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The men’s and women’s soccer teams provided the second-most student-athletes to the America East Honor Roll with 12 student-athletes each.
Stony Brook annually excels in the classroom and earns numerous recognitions for it. During the 2010-11 academic year, 210 student-athletes made it on the America East Honor Roll. In the fall of 2011, two student-athletes, Eric Speakman of men's cross country and Hayley Green of women's cross country, were named America East Scholar Athletes, representing the best of the conference both on the field and in the classroom.
