Core Compliance Committee

Under the guidance of the Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration who serves as the President's liaison to the Director of Athletics, the University also supports a Core Compliance Committee which meets less frequently but is charged with a larger macro responsibility for assessing the overall compliance program throughout the year. The Core Compliance Committee is comprised of the Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Vice President for Student Affairs/Associate Provost, the Faculty Athletics Representative, University Associate Counsel, Chair of the IAB (Intercollegiate Athletics Board), Senior Associate Director of Athletics and the Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance. This committee met two times during the 2005-06 academic year and was satisfied that the Athletics Department has a strong monitoring and educational process in place for remaining compliant with NCAA rules.

The role of the Core Compliance Committee:

  • Provide a regular opportunity for members to meet and establish collegial and cooperative relationships as they carry out their compliance related duties.
  • Review secondary violations looking for patterns or other indications of systemic weaknesses in compliance processes and procedures or the adherence thereto.
  • Provide the Compliance Officer with a receptive body, outside of Athletics with which to discuss areas of concern.
  • Be available as a ready body of senior university employees to serve as a coordinating group in responding to major violations should they arise.
  • The CCC also serves as the Compliance Committee of the Intercollegiate Athletics Board to oversee and coordinate related projects. In this arena we must be especially judicious in our actions to encourage accomplishment of the objectives while not usurping management's role in designing and implementing solutions.
